At La Colombe d’Or Hotel, the best of Houston is at your fingertips, including the ever-expanding Museum District, 445-acre Hermann Park, the internationally renowned Texas Medical Center, acclaimed Rice University, the bustling cafes and boutiques along Lower Westheimer and the oak-lined streets of some of the city’s oldest and grandest neighborhoods.

Made up of 15 member institutions that, together, lure millions of visitors from around the globe each year, The Houston Museum District is the fourth largest of its kind in the country - boasting more than half a million square feet of exhibition space -  and home to some of the most famously diverse artworks in the world.

Located adjacent to La Colombe d’Or Hotel,  The Menil Collection, which opened in 1987 to preserve and exhibit the collection of Houston philanthropists and collectors-extraordinaire John and Dominique de Menil, consists of 15,000 paintings, prints, drawings, photographs and books and is one of the most important privately assembled collections of the 20th Century.  Set in a stunning modern structure designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Renzo Piano, the 23-acre Menil campus also encompasses the Cy Twombly Gallery, Richmond Hall, housing a multi-colored Dan Flavin light installation, meditation-haven The Rothko Chapel and the stunning Byzantine Fresco Chapel Museum, designed by the Menils’ son, architect Francois de Menil, to showcase the only intact Byzantine frescos in the Western Hemisphere.

Situated a short walk south of La Colombe d’Or Hotel and given to the city by George Hermann in 1914, the 445-acre Hermann Park is Houston’s oldest public green space and one of its most pristine, thanks to a recently completed multi-million-dollar capital improvement campaign.  Adding to the park’s allure are some decidedly notable tenants, including more than 3,000 exotic animals that reside in The Houston Zoo, set in a lush 55-acre landscape within the park.  Also on hand are Miller Outdoor Theatre, The Garden Center, Hermann Park Nature and Jogging Trail, as well as the first desegregated public golf course in the United States.

The internationally acclaimed Texas Medical Center, originally established in 1945, is widely considered the preeminent district of its kind in the world.  With 42 member institutions, over five million patient visits a year—including over 10,000 international patients—4,000 plus physicians, 11,000 plus nurses and over 70,000 total employees, the 800-acre district is a testament and to quality healthcare in the United States. It should come as no surprise, then, that more heart surgeries are performed at the Texas Medical Center than anywhere else in the world.  La Colombe d’Or Hotel often plays host to patients and families seeking longer term stays with its villa accommodations.

We hope you’ll have time to visit our noteworthy sister establishment. A long time neighbourhood favorite, Zimm’s Martini & Wine Bar is located just a few blocks away from La Colombe d’Or Hotel.
